Keeping Live Music Alive
Jenn Bock is the Director of Bands at Poston Junior High School in Mesa, AZ. Under her direction the band program at Poston has grown in both numbers and in quality. Her bands consistently receive top honors at area and state concert band festivals. In 2010 the Poston Concert Band was the “Top Entrant” in the HSBDNA National Online Concert Band Competition, was an Honored Performance at the 2011 AMEA Conference and was one of only three ensembles to receive a Superior with Distinction in Arizona’s first ever State Concert Band Festival in 2015. In addition to teaching Poston’s five curricular band classes, 7th grade percussion class and extra curricular jazz band; Mrs. Bock serves as head of Poston’s Performing Arts Department where 1/3 of the school’s population is enrolled in a music class.
In 2014 Mrs. Bock was honored to be the recipient of KTVK3’s Silver Apple Teacher Award. She is passionate about working with young musicians and enjoys conducting local honor bands. In 2012, she conducted the White Mountain Region JHS Honor Band and the Mesa Public Schools Elementary Honor Band and in 2016 was the clinician for the Southern Arizona 7th Grade Honor Band in Tucson. Mrs. Bock has been an adjudicator for the ABODA JHS Area Concert Festivals for the past four years. She has also presented sessions on FUNdamentals for young bands and Classroom Management at the AMEA State In-Service Conference.
Jenn has served as the chair for the AMEA 7th grade All-State Band and on the ABODA Board as both Secretary and VP of ES/JHS Band Activities. As a flautist Jenn has performed with the Desert Echoes Flute Project and the Arizona Wind Symphony. She has her B.A. in Music Education from Montclair State University, NJ and is currently working towards her Masters in Music Education at Arizona State University.
